Glitch effect for video and photos

Tear the picture into glitching bands with the sliders and compare it with the original, then open your own video or photo and export it at full resolution. It runs in your browser: your file is never uploaded.

How to add a glitch effect to a video online

  1. Open your video or photo

Choose Open your own file: the editor opens with the effect, ready for your file (videos as MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV; photos as JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF). It opens in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

  2. Set the glitch and compare

Amount sets how often and how hard the picture glitches, Size how tall the torn bands are and Speed how often the glitch changes. Compare shows the original beside the result; play a video to see the glitch move.

  3. Export it

In the editor, export the video as MP4 or WebM, or the photo as PNG, JPEG or WebP, at its full resolution, with no watermark.

Amount, Size and Speed

Amount sets how often and how hard the picture glitches, from none at 0 to heavy at 100: bands of rows torn sideways with their red and blue knocked apart, and blocks broken off, their colours swapped, inverted or crushed to a few levels. Its strength swings from calm to sudden bursts, as a failing signal's does, and one band is always torn, so a photo or a paused frame shows the glitch too.

Size sets how tall a torn band is, from 2 to 120 pixels on a 1080p frame, scaled with the resolution, and the broken blocks are a few bands across: a 4K export has the same glitch as the small preview.

Speed sets how often the glitch changes, from about twice to thirty times a second. At 0 it holds one glitch still.

A glitch that follows the video's clock

The glitch is worked out from each frame's own time, not from a looped overlay or a timer, so it moves as the video plays, a paused frame holds still, and the export matches the preview frame for frame.

It runs over the whole clip. To glitch only part of a video, split it on the editor's timeline and add the glitch to one part: each clip there has a look of its own.

Glitch, RGB split and chromatic aberration

They are often confused, and the editor has all three. The glitch breaks the picture apart in bands and blocks that change from moment to moment, its colours knocked apart with them. RGB split shifts red and blue apart by the same distance across the whole frame, in one direction, like a worn videotape. Chromatic aberration adds red and blue fringes that grow from nothing at the centre to the frame's edges, as a simple lens does.

Build a VHS or broken-signal look

In the editor, the glitch combines with RGB split, scanlines, grain and the Retro VHS preset, and you can drag the effects into the order they apply in. By default the glitch applies as the picture is read, so a colour grade, glows, scanlines and grain go over it.

Your files stay on your device

Everything happens right on your device, in your browser. Your videos and photos are opened, edited and saved there, and never sent anywhere.

Because nothing is uploaded, your files are safe: nothing can leak, and no one else, not even us, ever sees them. You don't need an account: one holds only your email address and the AI agents you let in, and signing in keeps a single cookie. An agent's instructions to your editor pass through our server and are deleted as soon as the editor has carried them out; your files never do. Without cookies, the site counts visits and a few choices, such as a preset or effect you pick and the format you export to, but never which files you open or anything in them.

Exports leave out hidden details such as where a video was recorded, and a shared link carries only your settings, never your file.

Files and browsers

Opens MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos and JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF photos, and exports MP4 or WebM, or PNG, JPEG or WebP, at full resolution, keeping the original sound where the browser can. Works in current Chrome and Edge on a computer or Android, in current Firefox on a computer and in Safari 26 or later; HDR video is converted to standard range.

Questions about the glitch video effect

Choose Open your own file above to open the editor with the effect, open your video there, set Amount, Size and Speed, and export it as MP4 or WebM. In the editor, Glitch is under Add effect.
